interACT supporter Elizabeth Reis is doing important work to raise awareness of the needs of intersex people in hospitals. “What Hospitalists Should Know About Intersex Adults,” published in the Summer 2016 issue of Perspectives in Biology and Medicine, provides a how-to guide to thoughtful hospital treatment via a case study of a woman with CAIS. By offering positive examples of how to treat intersex patients as well as a background of why many people with intersex conditions have been harmed, rather than helped, by their experiences in hospitals, Elizabeth and her co-author are helping to turn the tide from stigmatizing to compassionate care. Read the Full Article Here.
