New year, new us—we have a new logo and look. Can you believe interACT is older than the intersex flag itself? We wanted to resemble the intersex flag colors more closely, to represent our continued commitment to the rights of all intersex people.

You’ll see across resources, articles, and social media educational posts that we now have a new name and colors. Here’s a little behind-the-scenes of how we got here.

Advocates for Informed Choice (now interACT!) was founded by attorney Anne Tamar-Mattis in 2006. AIC was founded on a focused mission of ending harmful medical interventions on intersex children. Awareness of the legal questions surrounding children with intersex traits was beginning to grow, but no organization had undertaken legal advocacy on behalf of these children.

AIC developed a bold symbol that interACT has kept in its nearly 20-year life.

In 2011 AIC started “inter/ACT”, a youth-led advocacy program for intersex teens and twenty-somethings to come together, share experiences and raise intersex awareness.

Very quickly the group began to have an impact on social media and even television growing into the first successful intersex youth advocacy group in the world. The logo, designed by Pidgeon Pagonis, went on to inspire interACT’s powerful branding for years.

In 2013, Morgan Carpenter created the intersex flag, which has grown immensely in popularity in the decade since.

“At the time, I was concerned with inappropriate symbols and iconography used to describe intersex people, often accompanying stories about us – images that have no firm grounding or basis in the history of the intersex movement, or the history of how intersex people have been (and are) treated. I still share those concerns, so I’m glad that the flag offers a constructive and meaningful alternative way to represent intersex people.”

In 2016 AIC became interACT: Advocates for Intersex Youth, named after its youth program inter/ACT – a name developed by our young leaders and one that both recognizes and honors intersex youth voices which are at the heart and soul of our mission. 

The new logo kept the symbol and colors of the inter/ACT program.

In 2025, interACT updated its logo and colors. Our new colors align more closely with the intersex flag, to make it immediately clear who we are and what we stand for. They also represent interACT’s path forward, as both a youth-centered organization and a major player on a national legal scale. interACT represents both the friendliness of our youth program and the seriousness that belongs on documents headed to the Supreme Court.
